South America
Summary of research interests and expertise:

Annabel joined the ISA as a postdoctoral fellow in 2012. Her Ph.D (University of Cambridge, 2010) focussed on utopianism, cooperative development and missionary practices in the Ecuadorian Andes. Following up on one arm of her doctoral research, she is currently interested in addressing the novel possibilities for rethinking the state presented by the study of recent trends towards the reconstitution and strengthening of decentralised government in Latin America. Between 2011 and 2012, she was based at CRESC, University of Manchester, where she formed part of the collaborative project, Experimental States. As part of this project her research has been concerned with the ambiguous and emergent political practices that have surrounded the development of a controversial World Bank-funded technical study for the construction of a road bypass in the region of Cusco.
