Research Summary and Profile

Research interests:
Human rights, International Law, Philosophy, Social Sciences
Summary of research interests and expertise:

Dr Paresh Kathrani’s research focuses on Law and Authority, particularly the manner in which state organs use law as a means of authority and the way in which the law influences individual and collective action. An important strand of his work looks at the legal theory of international refugee law and the friction between the ethics of refugee protection and strong legal positivism, and the impact this has on the lives of asylum seekers. He has previously done work on failed asylum seekers and destitution.
