Summary of research interests and expertise:
Margherita Blandini manages the RLI’s research promotion and facilitation activities.

Margherita’s research interests encompass EU and Latin American immigration and asylum law and policy, and human-trafficking. She has been a consultant to the Council of Europe in the field of international cultural rights (particularly the right to education and the right to freedom of religion). She previously worked for UNODC and the European Parliament, where she acquired broad experience in the design, implementation and management of research and international cooperation projects.

01-Jan-2012 Coordinator, Workshop on Refugee Law and Policy for High-Level Officials of Commonwealth Governments

The objective of the Workshop was to strengthen selected Commonwealth States’ capacity to protect refugees and implement priority Universal Periodic Review recommendations on refugee protection. Within the structure of a targeted training programme delivered by academic experts and leading practitioners, high-level officials charged with designing and implementing refugee policies in fifteen Commonwealth countries exchanged knowledge and perspectives, and engaged with important new research and thinking in the field. The Workshop was made possible with the support of a Human Rights and Democracy Grant from the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
